Below I have uploads scanned images from Quentin’s useful book called ‘Words and Pictures’. Filled with his methods and thinking in text and in visual drawings I have selected three finished images from his making that has stood out to me.
Page 159. I love the use of variety with lots of interesting things going on in the image and also the use of light and shadow really creates a dynamic eye-catching effect in the way that is felt as curious environment of a loft and to pull people into the depths and treasure that is revealed to us.
Page 90-91: This is a magnificent use of no black lines which I will be exploring with my own practice to create a beautiful subtlety and inviting message to my audience. This all colour method is true to the world we live in as everything in the world around us doesn’t have a definite black line to forcefully showcase what it is to us. I want to break away from black lines and choose to be more loose like just like this method of making.
Page 88. I am really inspired by Quentin’s use of watercolours shown above and using the white of the page and using the transparencies of the wash effects of the paint gives it a mystical and wondering aesthetic. Looking closely at this picture I can read that Quentin has stepped away and let the natures of water control the shapes and directions of the paints giving the work and the tools a life of their own in their fascinatingly collaborate and contribution in the control of the making instinctively let go and then returned.
